Bed idea

Hello folks.

At the moment I'm sorta playing around with ideas for the next truck project and was wondering if anyone had ever seen or heard of this.
Essentially what I want to do is take an 88-98 stepside bed and cut the back "steps" off of it and mold the area where they would be into the rear (if this is unclear maybe the attached pic will help).
I really think this would clean up the back of the bed and give it a smoother look overall.
Any thoughts, idearers, pics, etc from the resident board experts?
Efabman have I lost my mind?

(P.S. For all of you who are retching, I'll also be grafting the round wheel arch where the square one is now and filling in any seam I can, not to mention making the back of the cab smooth and assorted other tricks.)
TIA
