starter wont disengage

i have searched the forum for old threads i thought i read one a while back on this but had no luck finding it so i guess i will just ask

my starter has been missing quite abit latly so i figured i would drop it out clean it up a bit mabe fiddle with it see if i couldnt fix it before i go buy all the parts for it so i did that tried it and didnt make much difference only that it will wouldnt dis engage untill i disconnect the battery

today i bought a new solenoid and brushes put it all in put the starter back in allt he same wires to the same places all that tried it and it noticably engaged stronger and turned a bit faster but wen i took the key out it didnt stop turning over till i took the battery off luckly its kinda cold and my truck sucks at winter it wont start at all if its not plugged in if it has some heat it willl fire up like nothing

any way would anyone mabe know whats goin on here i have changed nothing but the the solenoid and brushes the starter was re assembled with no left over parts or anything so i dunno what to do ideas????
