Disc Brake Conversion

Hello,

I've looked through the FAQ and I think this can be done because others have mentioned different years in their projects, but before I invest the time and money I'd like to pick ur brains and get ur opinions;

I'd like to know if I can pull the whole suspension off (1970 GMC 3/4 ton 8 bolt) by removing the frame bolts from the crossmember and control arms, remove shocks, brake line, stablizer bar brackets and disconnecting pitman arm. I have a 1976 3/4 ton donor with disc brakes (also 8 bolt) and I'm hoping I can just bolt it's setup back and change to a dropped spindle (with new coils?).

Or should I just save up and buy dropped disc conversion kit for the original.

I'm a novice comfortable with swapping identical parts but because of my lack of knowledge I get concerned about interchanging parts from different vehicles.
