Smile Sloppy shifter

Hi all,
I'm beginning the fix up stage of my "new" 1970 Chevy K20 4x4. It has the 4 speed tranny, but I'm not sure what make it is. The gearshift is quite loose when in gear, and its a little hard to find the next gear. I have pulled it out of the housing to look at it and see what I could fix. The little rounded end that slides the gear rails back and forth is fitted really loosely onto the bottom of the shifter, and is held on by a small rollpin. Is there a way to tighten this up? Also, I think I will replace the 2 rollpins in the tranny housing that hold the shifter in place and maybe weld and regroove the places that the rollpins fit into on the shifter. Any thoughts? Thanks!!
CT.
