Ignition Question...

Ok, I got a 1980 C10 2wd SWB with a 79 Crate 350, the GM 290hp crate.

I'm also using the stock ignition system (HEI). Stock coil, stock distributor, cap, etc.

I'm not too familiar with ignition systems or how it all works, but I do know one thing. When I looked at it, I knew it wasn't getting much spark. I did the trick of plugging a screwdriver into the plug wire and grounding it to see the spark jump. I showed my dad, and another mechanic, and both agreed that it didn't have much spark. We didn't bother with it at the time being that the truck was still having serious fuel issues at the time.

So my question is, what can I do to get more spark out of the stock ignition system? What are common things to check for? Cap, rotor, and plug wires are all new with about 1000 miles on them. At this point, I'm lost on what to check for, but the truck almost feels rough at idle, and I think the spark may be a factor in this...

Thanks for any help!
