It's all Auto Zone's fault I tell you.

Finally got off my lazy rear to investigate the lousy performance, lousy mileage, and weirdness with the timing on my work truck. Was running 20 degrees advance at idle just to get it to run 1/2 way decent.
Well it turned out that the Auto Zone "rebuilt" dizzy that I put on there a year ago was only advancing 12 degrees no matter what springs I put on there. It looks like they used the wrong parts. I took the shaft and weights off my old core that thankfully I kept around, and put them in there and set the timing to TDC per specs. WHAT A DIFFERENCE!! Easily 40 more horsies.
The cam seems to take a dump at about 3500-4000,but at least the Escorts and Sentras now have something to fear around here.
