Question Hard Shifting - Is it Normal

Belated Happy Thanksgiving to all my Southern Friends . Up here we're still working on Thanksgiving leftovers - just in time for Christmas, eh?

So I'm just curious here.

Ever since I've been driving my truck - about 1-1/2 years now - the 700R4 tranny kinda "slams" from first to second. It's a little worse before everything has warmed up, but even when warm it's still pretty solid. All other shifts are nice and smooth and the tranny seems to work fine otherwise.

The previous owner said it's always been that way, from what he can remember.

So, any suggestions? Should I try some tranny conditioner? Or is this normal?

Thanks for the help.
