yard guide for "Land of the Lost"?

This is kinda long -

Had an awesome day Saturday, I found a place that reminds me of “Land of the Lost” – it’s about 300 acres of every kind of vehicle you could imagine (except no early muscle).
I only covered about ¼ of the place. I saw stuff from the 40’s to the present and almost all still had the badging on it! Like a mid 50’s C-50 that still had the “V” shaped speedometer in it… that sort of thing. Some were picked over but the main things missing were rear ends and columns… go figure. Camera sat at the house… ugh! Anywho, this might be a long post but it’s making me think in 12 directions at once.

I saw no less than 15, 67-72s in various stages of neglect. One 68(?) on it’s side with a V-6 in it still.. (2 with V6s). I found a 68(?) ¾ GMC that still had it’s camper on the back (from Pamona?), the tranny underneath (complete with a red shift knob – original?), the 6 cylinder and the center of the grille was still nice. It even still had all the chalk markings on the firewall. I saw several 67-69s with very nice grilles, head light rings and partial trim.

I saw a short bed box – with a Chevrolet tailgate (small lettering) – the gate outer skind was dented seriously and the wheel tubs didn’t have the bolts around them like my ‘72 does so I wasn’t sure what I was seeing but it had no rust in/on it????

Almost all still had the hoods, doors and all four fenders still attached, glass, lights, lenses. I was amazed at what was there. Anywho, I got some neat stuff for me and some to share with others.

This leads me to this idea – “THE Parts Yard Parts Guide” – imagine a booklet you could take with you when you are parts searching – based more on rarity, popularity or value than perhaps what you might be needing for your own vehicle…. For the 67-72 booklet, there are 6 sections – each section starts with a picture of the grille for that year(s) and a quick list of ways to tell them apart (ie: the dimples on the door of the 72 v. none on the 71) – Then as you go down the list, there is a “checklist” – Tilt, Tach Dash, Tow Hooks, Shift Knobs, etc.

Perhaps an even more descriptive part that tells you what tools to carry and for example, how to get one of those blasted nice grilles off…. Nothing worse than walking away from a nice ’67 grille with all the bolts out but something left hanging it up…. (twice no less!)

And then, a section for cross used parts – like say, the cruise control off a such and such – get these parts… or the brake boost from such and such that runs on the ps pump – and this year will fit that…

I know I could have used a guide the other day – I was too in awe of what I saw to make good choices in picking stuff – I do plan to go back as soon as snake and tick season is over….it made it a little hairy…. eeeehh! I was on my back drilling out sway bar brackets in the middle of a jungle…. shudder…..

Anyone up for the undertaking? Maybe a thread like in the FAQs that everyone can add to? I tried to search but might not have been looking for the key terms…… Am I in left field or would this not be a cool tool to take with you?
