What routes through the valve cover clips?

Does anyone know what wiring was originally routed through the clips that were on factory valve covers? I have a 71' Cheyenne 350 and noticed these 2 clips on the top of them that are metal and part of the valve cover, but can't figure out what their purpose is?

I know it's not the plugs wires and on the driver side thought it might be the temperature sending unit wiring. I can't seem to find out anything in my scematics, but I know some of you have better ones.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!
