Greetings everyone - 1st post
I am the somewhat proud owner of 3 turd Chevy P-U's. 2 longbeds with nice bodies ('75 Chevy driver and '69 GMC project) and a total roach of a '71 stepside that runs great. My judgement call story and question is as follows : I bought the roached out '71 as a parts truck strictly to have the factory SWB frame, 5 lug axles, discs, and coil rearend for my '69 GMC project. I was leery of cutting the '69's frame to attain the shortbed length, plus -- disc brakes are nice. (understatement) This SWB '71 step has turned out to be a blast to drive -- it is a 250 6 with a 4-speed "fence stretcher" granny gear tranny. It has either rust or dents on every single body panel along with heavily rusted rockers and flr panels, but the finish is green patina and currently cool in some circles. I am in a dilemma now over whether to dismantle this fun truck for the frame and suspension (which still needs paint, powdercoat and re-building)- which was the original plan, --- or to shorten my '69's lwb frame and drag my credit card heavily through the CPP catalog and keep both of these trucks active --- On one hand - my straight '69 would be a blast with shiny paint, nice wheels, decent interior, etc., but on the other -- the reaction my '71 gets is priceless--- although i don't hang out with the tattoo and ducktail "rat rod" set. Ultimately, just having one nice swb is all i need, so i don't know what to do with my ugly, but sweet running turd truck |
