I6 vs V8

Hey guys I just wanted to post to get some of your opinions on a subject. I have a 69 GMC with a 292. It runs great but I was thinking about building a 350 for it. I want a truck that can get up and go when I want it to. Now tell me do you guys think it would be worth my while to rebuild the 292 or to build a 350 for this truck? Keep in mind the truck is 2wd, has a SM465, and I would like to keep the cost low. If you think I should keep the 292 let me know what you think I should do to get more out of it and what kind of parts should I go with (while keeping the cost low), and what kind of HP you think I can get out of it (while keeping the cost low). Basically what would you do if this was your truck?
