Hauling a Cab

Ok guys I am in the process of buying a cab and have been told on several occasions that a 67-72 cab will fit in the back of a fullsize pickup truck, my question is how do you sit it in there, like on its back or on its bottom or some crazy other way, and is there a chance that this will mess up the cab in any way if it doesn't have any doors on it?

I will be hauling the cab about 4.5 hours and would prefer not to drag a trailer with me but if it would be best to put the cab on a trailer I will do that, just want to see what you all think. I am sure if this is possible and ok for the cab then several of you all have done it.

The cab I will be picking up is already got all the rust fixed and is in pretty good shape so I would hate to screw it up on the drive home.
