Inside roof under headliner?

When I took my headliner out of my '82 K5 to replace the plastic trim the roof was a black color (the rest is red) under the headliner. The color like when you buy new body parts.
If I pull the headliner out of my '86 GMC regular cab truck will it be the same or should it be painted body color? After all the trucks I have parted or helped part I have yet to pull a headliner EXCEPT from a black truck?

If I pull the headliner and trim out of my truck permanently will it be obvious that it used to have the headliner and trim? Besides the screw holes.
And on the flip side, if I went to put a headliner and trim on a truck that wasn't optioned that way from GM will it just bolt up? Or would I have problems with the dome light and cargo light switch and such?
