Early GMC power train

Hi folks;
It's a FNG with a question and a request. I have been told that the early 50's GMC's used a combination of a nailhead buick eng/ early GM 4 spl hydro in some of their models. Yes--No?????. If true, could someone steer me to a source for a rebuildable eng/trans for this application. I live on the Texas coast near Louisiana, but could travel some for the right deal.
