Transmission advice

Thinking of changing the plan for my 1950 Chevy 3100. Was going to put a 261 and T-5 in but am now considering a SBC for the performance, price and availability of parts. The truck will be a weekend and evening cruiser.
If I go with a carbureted 350, what auto transmission do you recommend? I was thinking a TH350 (cheap and easy to install) or a 700R4 for the OD. I have no experience with the 700R4 so I don't know how difficult the installation is or if a computer is required. The rear ratio isn't an issue as I still have to find a new rear end for the truck.
Thanks.
