"repair bearing" frustrations
I had a rear wheel bearing go our in my 'burb, so naturally, I take the thing apart. I also took apart the other side too. Figured while I was doing it, I might as well check the health of both sides. Anyway, pulled the bearing out of the bad side, couldn't get the race out. I pulled the seal out of the other side because I figured it would be a good time to change it.
Come to find out, both side had a 'repair bearing' put in. My problems are as follows: 1) I can't pull the race/sleeve out. There is pretty much no lip on it. It's a big sleeve designed to fit in the end of the axle housing to relocate the position of the bearing. It is typically pounded in. Any ideas of how to get the dang thing out? 2) The one side is fine, except that I popped the seal out (and that involved tweaking it). The seal has no numbers whatsover on it. The only way I know to replace the seal is to replace the entire 'repair bearing'. Does anyone know what seal it is in there? I'd really hate to have to replace the whole stupid thing just because of a seal, expecially since replacing it involves removing a pain-in-the-rear sleeve.
