76 Truck won't start
I'm sure this is a dumb question. I'm pretty sure I know what the problem is, but I'm hoping for the best. This pertains to a 1976 Chevy C10 with 350/4 bbl carb.
Went to go drop the truck off at the mechanic's, but he won't take it cause he was too swamped. Went to drive the truck home (bout 12 miles) and halfway home it started hearing a loud screaching noise mainly when my foot was on the gas pedal. Sounded similar to a clutch going out on an A/C compressor or belts squeling. Tried to baby the truck home. Truck died right when I turned into my neighborhood and was able to coast home. Now the truck won't truck over. You turn the key hear the starter try to turn over the engine for a split second and then nothing. Do you guys think my engine is locked up or is it possible for the water pump to go out and lock up and prevent the engine from turning over? Truck sat for 2 years and I just inherited it. Water pump was rusted to hell as well as a few other places underneath the truck. I don't know if the second scenario is possible, but was hoping since I didn't want to have to put in a longblock. |
