engine rebuild pics
Here are photos from the tear-down of my Chevy's engine last Saturday. http://homepage.mac.com/elgatoloco/PhotoAlbum4.html
We took the valve cover, head and oil pan off. Pulled the pistons, dropped the crank, removed the bearings, oil pump and pickup. Pulled the fuel pump, distributor, water pump, thermostat housing and timing cover. We scraped out the piston ring grooves and after cleaning the carbon off one of the piston heads, found that my engine's been bored to 40 over. Cool! We got the main bearings replaced and the rings, oil pump and pickup should be in this afternoon. The lifters looked great, the head had no pits, grooves or warping. We set the timing, the plugs looked great, and the pistons & bores looked really clean for the age of the truck. Now it's time to clean everything and reassemble. If I'm lucky, by Saturday night I should have a rebuilt and rockin' inline 6! Total cost of parts is about $200. Not bad. 68ChevC10 ------------------ 1968 Chevrolet C10 Stepside. My driver.
