Question regarding tailgate band

I would like to replace the woodgrain tape on my GMC tailgate band with the replacement tape I've seen advertised. Anyone try this? How did you remove the old woodgrain tape... mine is cracked and peeling? Does the replacement tape look/work good? Also, the GMC letters look like the're held on with rivets. Once I drill the rivets to remove the letters, how do I reattach them after installing the new tape? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
