6 to 5 lug rearend changes

Somebody please help me, I have a 1968 Chevy Surburban, and would like to change to a 5 lug. At the last truck show that I went to, I run into a gentelmen that swears up and down that axels and bearings from a 73 to 87 Chevy truck are the same and all one needs to do is swap out axels, bearings, and brakes to make this work, I have three of these rearends sitting around my garage and would like to know if this swap would work. CAN SOMEONE PLEASSSEE HELP ME.
