Yet another gas tank thread (not the typical blazer between the frame rails stuff)

OK, I don't remember that well, but I am pretty sure that my 84 had a cylindrical tank mounted on the passenger side outside of the frame rail under the cab/bed interface. I have not seen anyone do this to our trucks... because I do not want to ruin my spare tire area, and I don't want it in the cab anymore.

Has anyone taken a air tank and crafted a gas tank out of it or anything like that? How about mounting an odd shaped fuel cell there or close to it? I realize that the tank being outside of the frame rails is inherently less safe, but it'd better than in the cab, and a fuel cell is a whole lot safer than a tank anyways.

Any ideas on this? I like my spare tire (even though it currently does not live there)!

Thanks
-Brian
