Transmission Woes.....

Need some ideas on this. Had my wife following me home yesterday and she called me saying that I was losing some kind of fluid all over the windshield and front of her car. When I got home I crawled underneath and it is definitely transmission fluid but it is so soaked everywhere I can't tell where it is coming from. I checked the fluid level and it was about 2 quarts low so I filled it up and drove it around the backyard for a bit. I was about to park it when it totally stopped pulling in all gears and reverse. I was frustrated so I left it sitting where it was and today decided to check it out. I hopped in and put it in gear and it took right off. After a few minutes of driving it did the same thing. Any ideas???? Would a bad front seal cause this???
