Remove Trans or Trans & T-case?

I have a 67 GMC with a 305 V-6 engine, manual 4-speed and NP205 T-case. It keeps jumping out of 2WH and 4WH. I have already taken all the play out of the single shifter. I'm thinking of removing the T-case for further inspection (and fix all the leaks too!). Is it easier to remove the T-case alone or remove the T-case and trans as a unit? Anyone know about how heavy they are?
