C-notch question

Planning my disc conversion/lowering project for spring time. I'm only going to do 5" lower rear springs and was wondering what you all thought of those bolt on c-notches that LMC and Classic has.

Do they really work? Would it be better to weld them in?

Besides those, what other parts would be necessary for the rear end to keep things centered?
