Almost walking !!

Well I decided that it was time to dump the old Rockwell T-case and install the ready to go 205 setup. After taking out the case I was shocked to see the out putshaft had twisted and broke. I don't know how it did'nt snap off and leave me walking. After I took the pics I looked at the input shaft and it was twisted and cracked also! I have messed with a lot of trannys and never seen one like this. LAst year I installed a stout well built 454 with front and rear lockers and have been having fun with it. I even took 4th place in a burnout contest with 23 cars. I was the only 4x4 in the bunch. The crowd loved it. I was expecting the coupler to let loose, but not the tranny shafts.
Anyone know if I can get stronger than stock shafts for the 465? Would going to an auto be better? I would rather keep the standard. I know an auto would help ease the hard shock on the drive line when I stomp on it. I also wonder if ya'll think new shafts would hold up OK considering the old shafts have been twisted on for almost 40 years.
Any thoughts, Ideas?
Thanks
