Divorced choke.... 396

My truck is running really crummy when cold, and has a divorced choke.

I am unable to see how it works.....

I looks like it is all there but I can't find a connection inside the little metal cover for the rod itself.

I understand the info on adjusting it [bend the little rod to make the throw longer or shorter] but not how to connect it. My cover is a little shorter and a little longer than the pic, below, but looks like it would work the same.

Does the manifold end of that rod just 'ride' freely on the spring, with the cutout for the rod passage corralling it?

What is the tiny hitch pin for and where does it go? Mine doesn't have one.
