Lawman02; I've rebuilt many Q-Jets in my lifetime of Chevy ownership, and in my experience if your carb is running rich, the culprit is the float. Some of these carbs had a brass float and some had a phenolic resin float. Both were subject to their own failures. The brass float would crack due to vibration, and the phenolic resin float would soak up gas, they both got heavy and caused the wet fuel level to be high which equals rich mixture and poor fuel economy. Rebuilding them is not rocket science, but very close attention must be paid to measurments and for sure the float level. I would be glad to help if you decide to tackle this yourself...nofords
