59 Headlight switch?

I've looked everywhere possible with no success. How do you get the stock headlight switch out of a 59 Apache? I thought by pulling the light switch knob all the way out and inserting a wire or something like that along side the knob post would release it, but it's not working.

Can anyone guide me in the right direction, before I totally destroy the switch by ripping it out.
