Removing coil springs.

Can you pull the front coil springs out of a truck with out using a jack? I’ve always used a jack and dropped the LC A slowly so the spring wont go crazy, but I can find a yard that will let me bring a jack (safety issue). They told me to just use a breaker bar. I didn’t think that sounded too safe. Suggestions? I was looking for newer ‘73+ control arms for my blazer.
