283 V8 in a 1968 3/4 ton longbed?
Hey all, got a quick question. I have a '67 short-step that the previous owner had put in a junk-yard 305 V8 in it. The 305 runs really good, but I had a 3/4 ton '68 long bed for parts. I pulled the motor before I scrapped her. (Don't worry, she wasn't EVEN worth fixing up, she was beat.) I figured I could rebuild the motor out of the '68 while I'm driving my '67 and then do a motor swap once I was finished.
Here is my question... I ran the block numbers and it came back as a 283. It's curious because the 307 was to replace the 283 in '68. Now granted, the motor could have been replaced at some point in the trucks life, but it doesn't look like it had been swapped. The VIN sticker in the glove box was unreadable, so I couldn't go off of the engine codes. Any ideas? It doesn't matter to me that it is a 283, I will still rebuild it anyway. Thanks in advance for your thoughts... D
