Carrier bearing question

I asked about U joints yesterday and was advised Spicer was the best so I picked up 3 from the driveshaft shop. He looked at my carrier bearing since he said there was a choice of 2 different ones. Upon inspection he informed that I have neither of those but I have one with a split metal housing that the bolt centers are 5 7/8 as opposed to the other kind that is 6 1/2 and the bearing sits at different height. He said the kind I have is obsolete. Any one know what in the hell I am talking about and if so where I can get one. Thanks
