question on rear cab trim?

Wondering if anyone else has run into this problem? After I had bought this truck, I noticed that there seemed to be a wider distance between the bottom of the rear window and the rear cab trim from one side to the other. I first thought that someone had used molding tape on one side and used the clips on the other. After I took the trim off, the little metal buttons on the cab that the moulding clips clip onto are in the right position on the far driver's side and they are about an inch high on the passenger's side. They actually go in a straight line across the back of the cab, but it makes the back of the cab look off. On the left side, the metal button is even with the bottom of the drip rail, but on the right side, the button is about an inch up from the bottom of the drip rail. It appears that this was done at the factory because I can't see anyone trying to weld those little metal buttons on. I'm going to fix this and the only option I see is to keep the far left side button and grind off the ones that are in the wrong spot. I would then use molding tape on the other clips the rest of the way across. Any suggestions?
