Hey man...I just read this, I want to say I'm really sorry about the loss of your best buddy.....Your story was a tear jurker man. That was a hard but honorable decision to put her down.
Although I never had a dog growing up, I have been around animals forever... We just my kids their first dog....it's a little Yorky....They seem to like her....  Take care bro...... Later
