Good News!!!
Well I this weekend I was piddling around and decided to check the stamp on my 350 and sure enough it's a 1970 block! So, I went ahead and gave Doug (previous owner) a call to verify that the engine is original to the truck and sure enough it is. I don't know what put it in my head that it was a later model 350 but it was just a fabrication in my mind. I think it was the fact that Doug had a 402 radiator put in it. On top of that, the block has not been bored out so I am the very happy owner of unmolested block...number's matching truck! Tranny and all! This was not a huge concern of mine when I found the truck, I was just attracted to the reliability factor (recently built 350 and rebuilt TH350). Another nice surprise was when I checked my rear end out and it was full of clean Royal Purple gear juice. It's nice to do the routine maintenance and find good things! This was a slight worry due to the 4.11 rear end getting a little more highway time recently.
I have to admit that it is nice to find a truck that has been ‘taken care of’. It makes life a lot easier in my case! And cheaper! Now, the rust is a different story…more to come-
