BBC were more popular in the beginning when gas was cheap, but I would say it is a keeper. 73-74 trucks are pretty much unique in comparison to the later models. There are several things that won't interchange. BBC's with SWB wasn't as common as LWB, but they are out there.
All a 73 454 needs for more power is a bigger came, they came with oval ports. The BBC was discontinued after 1979.
