Up here in South Dakota they are referred to as "toppers" also. I used this one for many years to keep my tools out of the weather for my job and pit equipment for the stock car races. This pic of my C2500 is from 1980.

It did get cleaned out often and the wife and I would throw sleeping bags in it and go up in the hills camping. That did not make it a camper shell tho.

Still have the GMC but the topper is rotting in a field near Alliance NE now.

I guess it was a whole different era then but I really liked the looks of that truck with the topper. I bought the truck with it already on it in 1979.
