BFG MT T/A km opinions

I am having a lot of trouble finding the tires I want, and I think I will likely have to go with the BFG MT's and I wanted to hear from others as to what their opinion was on these tires......I am looking to keep the tires tall and skinny to poss. help fuel economy a bit, but I think with the tread design of these tires, I am pretty much going to be a wash at best. How have others done mpg wise with these tires?
I have read that people can get 40k+ miles on these tires, but is that with usable tread still on the tires, or am I pretty much running on slicks after 20k?

Has anyone had these tires siped, and where do you go to get this done?
