Maybe dumb ?, but replacing stereo in 77 GMC...

I'm in the process of searching the archives... but maybe someone has a specific knowlege on the subject...

Please Forgive, me; most of my experience replacing stereo's is in newer model cars... Usually I'm just stipping an older vehicle to save weight and just yank stuff out without regard that it will need to go back (race cars).

I have the front part of the dash out of my 77 pickup. I have a replacement stereo ready to go; but I am concerned wether the stock unit is going to come out from the floor side. There is a vent/ducting down there that is going to make it VERY close, if not impossible.

Is that the way I should go about pulling it out; or would it be easier to pull the Heat/AC controls and come through that hole?

Any other options?

Thanks in advance!
