Junk yard trans/transfer case removal
Well, today we did some rather amazing trans removal work considering it was about 28 degrees, 35 mph wind gusts and were not allowed a jack! Done a lot of junk yard u-pull it scavenging but nothing ever this big and heavy. Removed a TH400/NP208 combo, intact , from a diesel blazer. Took all of 3 hours, no bleeding, no accidents. Brought lots of cut up 2x4s, 2x6s, and 4x4s for blocks. Remembered to bring SAE AND Metric tools and socket extensions(this was an 85) , fogot the cheater pipe but found one in the yard (for turning the crank to remove all the flywheel/converter bolts). Brought a wheelbarrel for the tools, a handtruck to carry the trans/transfer combo out. After we were all done the trans combo, a door panel, torque converter, front/back driveshafts ran us a little under $200.00. Plus the trans has already been rebuilt by Jasper according to the tag. Putting it back in the Blazer in the garage, on a nice concrete floor, with a drop light instead of a flashlight, and JACKS, should be less of a challenge.
