Need help with motor..should i rebuild???

Im new to these trucks..but i know a little..but nothin to much about motors..mines a 250 or a 292..cant go get the number to find out till the snow melts...it knocks..but my dad said its knocked for yrs...i wanna a little more power but not a speed demon..well i guess that wouldnt be bad but...well im on a limited budget..im only 15...is there ne cheap way to fix a knock...ne ideas on how to get more power..or should i just go with a rebuild..if so whats a good kit..or is it cheaper to get all the parts seperate...too many questions..ahhh..
