Help! convert 72 3/4 ton to 4X4
First, let me apologize if this has already been addressed. My unskilled search of past posts didn't pan out, so here goes.
I have a 1972 3/4 ton regular box GMC truck with automatic trans and pwr steering/disc brakes that I would like to convert to 4X4. I have access to a 1967 4X4 chassis with axles, steering assy (non-power), drum brakes, 4 spd manual trans and transfer case, etc. Will my coil sprung 72 frame have the mounting points to directly transfer the 67 4X4 leaf spring running gear? If not, is there much to adding/transferring them (if it can be done at all)? I suppose I could transfer my body etc to the 67 frame, but my 72 frame is in much better condition, so that would be my second choice. Please let me know if I didn't provide enough info, and I'll see if I can find out whatever else is needed. A second related question...can I transfer the power disc brakes to the 4X4 axle? I've never had one of these trucks before and really have no knowledge of them at all (does it show...?), but I'm looking at tackling the project anyway. Vehicles are vehicles...right? And feel free to laugh at my beginner-ness...just not too hard please. ;>) Thanks! Last edited by bluefairladyz; 04-04-2008 at 07:10 AM. Reason: I forgot some details. |
