Newb from western PA - 69 GMC mutt
Hi all,
Just wanted to stop by & introduce myself. Gotta say theres a wealth of knowledge here, as I have been catching up on my reading. Its getting time for me to tear back into the truck that I built in high school. Its been a lawn ornament for nearly the last decade. My father & I built it back about 93. We sarted with a 71 Chevy K10 that we were only able to salvage the drivetrain from. The rear rails broke in half when we pulled the wood bed off. We then happened onto a 69 GMC 2500 2wd that we intended to use the panels from, but instead just swapped the front 4wd components onto the 2wd frame. We then made our own spring perches for the 4wd rear axle to bolt to the 2wd springs. Shortly after we put it onto the road, the t350 tranny bought the farm so we procured a sm465/t221 combo & swapped it in. The next iteration will complete the 1 ton running gear, eliminate the 4" front springs/lifted rear perches and make it a suitable semi-daily driver. I am figuring a Dana 60 front, ff 14 bolt rear, stock (or closer to stock) ride height & some bushwacker flares to cover 33s or 35s. If you got this far I will ask the first question. I know the interchange for the front D60 but is there a rear axle that will be a direct swap to the 2wd springs/perch spacing? If it had discs it would be even better. Thanks for letting me ramble, Shane |
