my lucks been good today
well i fianlly got my distributor fixed today. i went to OWENS MACHINE SHOP in Pearland and talked to him about my problem with the spark knock, and told him im looking for distributor shims. he gave me one and said that should do it. well i went out, FIRST DAY OFF and pulled my dist apart. there was enough play that the little ears that go up inside the dist would almost come out of the slots. any way i also changed the gear and put 2 shims on. there is about .010- .015 clearance. anyway i heard someone on here say something about matching the side of the gear with the extra dimple with the point of the rotor. i dont know what exactly the difference is but when i put it back together i timed it at 12* btdc and took it for a drive. NO SPARK KNOCK in town driving at least. i let it go into OD and stepped on it a little, enough to put the load on the engine where it would always knock and NO KNOCK. wooo hoooo. im not sure about on the freeway yet but it looks good so far.
one other thing went my way. i had the same problem someone else on here had and that was the crank bolt at the harmonic balance was stripped. i went to the hardware store and found one that was about 1/4 inch longer and also had threads all the way to the end. anyway i put it in slowly making sure i wasnt going to mess anything up and it went in and tightened down another wooo hooo. this one was the most important as to what it could have done/ cost me. DAM, while my luck is good, i need to go out and do something else to my truck . NAAAA, i believe i will quit while im ahead
