Post Cutting Dash for Radio?

I was wondering how much does it matter if the dash is cut to receive a newer stereo, since the older "shaft style" stereos are rare to find in working order.

Does it lower the value of the truck?

I would like to get everyones opinion on this, as i am debating whether or not to cut the dash, since me radio recently stopped getting fm reception.
