Axle shaft

Are the axle shafts from a 70 and a 77 the same spline and lenght. They are both 12 bolts, I'm just trying to get a 5 lug rear. Also can I take the front spindels from a later truck and use them. I have a 77 parts truck and the drums just arent cutting it.
THANKS!
