Chevy and GMC differences

Its probably been discussed hundreds of times but I'm new to these trucks. Other than the front end and interior trim what exactly are any major differences between the two trucks. I am looking into a 72 GMC short step-side but would rather have a Chevy and they are few and far between where I'm from. Are the parts interchangeable and can I change the GMC over.
