Starter Problem Driving Me Crazy....Help
I've had a problem with the starter on my '68 1 ton. When I turn the key, the starter engages and then continues to engage, even after you turn the key off. I have to jump out and disconnect the battery to get it to stop.
So, I first changed out the ignition switch, since that was the easiest thing. I put in an NOS ignition switch and it did not fix the problem. Next, I pulled the starter and had it tested. It bench tested fine at NAPA. I took it to a starter/alternator rebuild place and I went ahead and had them rebuild it. This company does all the work for the school district vehicles, etc. The guy was great. He let me come back there and he showed me how to rebuild the thing. Anyway, I re-installed the rebuilt original starter, hooked up the battery, and the same %#@%$# problem. Starter wont disengage. What do I do now???? I didn't think it would be a shimming issue, since I am using the original starter. What about the actual ignition cylinder??? Could that be broken and not turning to the off position or something? I would appreciate any help guys. Thanks.
