Question temp gauge question.

I am having some trouble with my temp gauge. As soon as I turn the key to the on position the needle pegs!! Am I missing a ground or something? I replaced the sending unit and that still did not fix the problem. If someone could shed a little light on this it would be very helpful. Thank you.
