Need help to ID this transfer gear unit
This transfer gearbox is not at all like the NP205 units in my other 72 Blazers. I was told that it is a "Dana 40" from a 1970 Blazer. I cannot find any info on a "Dana 40" and am thinking that the guy may have stated the wrong make and model #. The front axle/diff setup with it seems to be a Dana 44 and maybe this unit is a Dana 20 or another Dana model # if there is one. Or, is it a Rockwell item and, if so, which model #?
Please take a look at these two pics (top view and end view) and give me a specific ID. Also, is there any reason why a person could not heat and bend the upper portion of this shift stick so that the stick will conform to the hump opening and line up near the 4 speed manual trans shifter as does the NP205 stick? All help will be appreciated. CCCC
