Ran out of gas and now it wonr run.

I was driving doing my road and the engine just stopped, ran out of gas. My gas gage doesnt work so I didnt know. No big deal right? Well I have my dad get me some gas and we try it out, it wouldnt run. So we poured some straight into the carb and it would run for a bit until it burned up that gas. Then after awhile it would run BARELY with the choke all the way open and me pumping the gas over and over.

I took the filter out and blew into it, it wasnt clogged and there was gas past it and before it in the rubber lines so I guess that mean the pump is working.

Also when I dad poured some gas in, gas came out toward the linkage like there was a leak. I tried pumping the throttle over and over to get the carb primed but i never really smelled gas or saw any.

There is a small "roll pin" like object thats attached to a linkage and moves up and down and has a small cotte pin type deal at the linkag to hold it on, When you press the pedal the linkage lifts it up higher. When I would prie this (lifting it up and down) it seemed to be getting gas into the carb and it would run a little bit.

SO, Is my carb out or what? Can a carb just die on you randomly??
